women liberation Imagine that you were women who lived in the late 1800s and you could not vote, could not get paid as much as men also could not get educated like men could. In that time you would see that other women can’t do things that men can that women will be able to do. First wave feminism and second wave feminism affected women’s lives because women could not vote or could not get the education like men could also employment and equality.
The women suffrage started because of their limited voting rights for women. They could not vote like men could. Even African American men could vote before they could. Their education was very low. The women did not get paid as much as men did, they got paid very low.
Second-wave feminism began in the 1960s in the United States and then soon spread through Western world. It was first called the “Women liberation movement.” It lasted till the 1980s. Later then it came a worldwide movement and it was strong in Europe and parts of Asia.
The first-wave feminism was based on suffrage and also was based on overturning legal obstacles to gender equality. “Second-wave feminism boarded the debate to a wide range of issues such as sexuality, family, and the workplace”. Also it was based on changes in custody and divorce law. The major effect was the Equal Rights Amendment to United States constitution.
An important second wave movement is in the publication of Betty Friedan’s book. This book changed women life in the 1960s and it made women look closely
at their own lives. The goals of the feminist movement were to let women have freedom, equal opportunity and control over their lives. By the 20th century women went to college and worked professionally.
So now I have told you about the second-wave feminism and some of the first- wave feminism and some of the reasons were women could not vote or could not get the education like men could also employment and equality. These movements matter to women today cause now women can vote like men and now women can get an education just like men but still today women still don’t get paid as much as men. These fights were important because if women would have never fought for them early then it might have got worse or would have never got fixed or better for women so fighting for them was important and affects women today.
